Better than Well Privacy Notice

Better than Well works with adults affected by trauma in childhood.  Our service helps the people we support to recognise, understand and manage the symptoms of trauma and to identify personal outcomes which improve their overall health and wellbeing.

Better than Well:

  • Identifies additional sources of support and opportunities for the people it works with
  • Raises awareness of the effects of childhood trauma in adults

What data we need

To allow us to provide the service you would expect from us, we process the following information about you:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Telephone numbers
  • Email address
  • Date of birth
  • Community Health Index number
  • Equal opportunities information
  • Referral and self-referral forms and letters
  • Reasons for referral or self-referral
  • The name, address and telephone number of your GP
  • The name, address and telephone number of relevant people involved in providing support for your health and wellbeing
  • Assessments of your health and wellbeing

Why we need it

We need your information and will use your information:

  • to enable us to supply you with the services and information which you have requested or expect from us
  • to analyse what we collect so that we can administer, support and improve our business and the services we offer
  • to contact you in order to send you details of any changes to our services which may affect you
  • to contact you for your views on our services
  • for all other purposes consistent with the proper performance of our operations and business

Where we store your data

We store your information:

  • In an online data management system called Dynamics
  • In a computer drive which has restricted access

How long we will keep your information

We review our data retention periods regularly and will only hold your personal data for as long as is necessary for the relevant activity, or as required by law (we may be legally required to hold some types of information), or as set out in any relevant contract we have with you.

We will generally keep your information for the following minimum periods after which this will be destroyed if it is no longer required for the reasons it was obtained.

What's the legal justification?

We will process your personal data with your consent  and special categories of personal data with your explicit consent.  The details of your next of kin and GP details will be processed in your vital interests.

Sharing your information

The information you provide to us will be treated by us as confidential.

We may disclose your information to third parties who act for us for the purposes set out in this notice or for purposes approved by you, including the following:

  • GPs, health professionals, social workers and other agencies involved in your care and support
  • Researchers who help us assess your experience of Better than Well

We may disclose your information to third parties, without your consent, including the following:

  • NHS and social work services, particularly if we identify an Adult Protection or Child Protection concern and assess you, another adult or child as “at risk”.

Receiving data about you

We may receive the following information from third parties:

  • Information relevant to your referral or self-referral from GPs, health professionals, social workers and other agencies involved in your care and support

Updating your information

If your details change, please contact selfhelp@linkliving.org.uk or call 01592 644048 to inform us to ensure that all of the information we hold about you is up to date.

Your rights

Your right of access

You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information. 

Your right to rectify

You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

Your right to erasure

You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances. 

Your right to restriction of processing

You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances. 

Your right to object to processing

You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances . However, if Link can demonstrate that there is a compelling reason to process such personal data then we may refuse to stop processing your personal data.  

Your right to data portability

You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

Your rights

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
